Too Cool!!

Steve LOVES space and everything involved with it. Space shuttles, astronauts, the space centers, ........... This week has been like heaven for him. He totally "geeked" out on Monday and listened to the rebroadcast of the Apollo 11 Mission - the landing on the moon. It was 40 years ago this past Monday that the Eagle landed on the moon. He listened to the entire day of it as he worked, ate, and worked some more - including the static time when they were behind the moon and couldn't broadcast.

Today, he told me that the International Space Center would be passing overhead and we'd be able to see it at 10:29! We both got busy working on things and at 10:29, I heard him loudly whisper my name. I knew instantly ... it was time. We both ran for the front door just in time to watch it appear in the big dipper and cross the entire sky. It was really neat to see it. It is a very bright light that moves rapidly across the sky.

I love that he loves space. I've learned a lot about the stars and outerspace from him. And Alyssa has learned a ton too!! She loves to try and find the planets when they are visible and different constellations with Steve. Its something they do together.

If you want to see the space station, go to this website to find out when it will be crossing above you. http://spaceflight.nasa.gov/realdata/sightings/ More sightings in Utah this weekend!!

We are really looking forward to visiting the Kennedy Space Center in Florida when we go this coming December (SSHHHHHH.... our kids don't know we are going to DisneyWorld and Florida yet!!). Originally, there was a space shuttle launch tentatively scheduled for about the time we were going ... but it has been moved to January. We are quite disappointed that we won't get to see a launch. That is a dream for Steve. Maybe someday, we'll get to take a trip just for that reason. I think he would have loved growing up near Vandenberg Air Force Base (near Lompoc, where I grew up)! He would have LOVED seeing and hearing the missile and rocket launches that we saw during the 80's.
